Art Grant Form Extension! Original Deadline 4/20...extended to 5/16/2025!
Meow Burn! is a gathering space celebrating art in a wide range of disciplines; visual art, performance art, interactive art, art cars, etc. Below is the form for art grants. If you are BYOA (Bringing Your Own Art) and do not need an art grant, please let us know - especially if it's large - so we can provide space for you and include you in the programming! Fill out the form, but please write $0 under amount of funding needed. Yes, you can bring rogue art too. If you'd like to design the effigy, please fill out the art grant form.

We are looking for cool stuff, inspiring stuff, stuff that’s fun to look at, play with, experience, or think about. This doesn’t need to be a “traditional” art form like sculpture or painting (although it could be!), nor does it need to be the kind of Big Impressive Art that you might remember from Burning Man (although it could be!). It could be an immersive space, a roving performance experience, or a big silly game.
You can think about it like this: what would you be excited to discover in the woods? These grants are here to support expression, community, and playfulness, so anything that fits under that umbrella can be considered. Don’t feel hemmed-in!
We are especially interested in proposals from people who aren’t sure they’re artists, who are very sure they aren’t, who are worried they aren’t good enough, or who have never tried anything artistic before. Sharing your weird niche hobby with the rest of Meow Burn! is still an act of Art, and we want to see it!
Although we will support as many projects as possible, please keep in mind that the Meow Burn! Art Grant budget is limited. This money comes from the community via ticket sale proceeds and private donations. All submitted requests, large and small, will be carefully considered.
Transportation costs: Art grants do not generally pay for fuel, vehicle rentals, or other transportation costs. Please do not include transportation costs in your budget.
Labor: Time and effort is how we all participate and contribute to the Meow Burn! Community, so please don’t include labor costs or wages in your budget.
General-purpose durable goods: We do not fund general-purpose durable goods like DJ / VJ gear, generators, lithium-ion batteries (cheaper or disposable batteries may be considered).
Tickets and other ‘general’ expenses: We won’t fund your tickets, any food/drinks, or camping gear.
All grant decisions are made according to the evaluation criteria listed in the grant category, and are ultimately up to Meow Burn!
Grant recipients who attend the event must register for and pay for their own tickets, just like other participants. Art grants do not come with tickets or waive the ticket fee. Grant funds may not be used to pay the ticket price. Artists can request up to 5 critical team members tickets in addition to themself.
All applicants will be notified via email. If your project is funded, we will send you a contract to ensure that you are willing to commit to using the funds as proposed and that you agree to follow through on your project, or at least make a good-faith effort. If you fail to send in the contract by the contract deadline, your art grant funds will be distributed to the next grant in the waiting list.
50% – Once the signed contract is received, you will receive half of the funds.
50% – After Meow Burn!, confirmed site clean-up, and required documentation is received.
Your project will be considered to be complete once proof and documentation have been delivered to, and reviewed by Meow Burn!
Your project must be set up no later than 6pm on the Friday of the event to receive the final 50% of funding.
You must provide your own transportation for your art piece.
In order to create an impartial review, applications will be anonymized before they are submitted for Art Grant Review. Proposals will be scored on the criteria listed below.
The committee will score each proposal based on the following criteria:
Thoughtfulness: How well thought-out is the project’s relationship with participants?
Creativity: How original and awe-inspiring is your project?
Feasibility: How likely is this project to be completed and installed?
Cool Factor/Originality: Would we like to see it come to reality?
Theme: Not all art has to be in line with cat theme. This is just one less weighted factor.

Art Grant Tips:
Art grants are intended to fund NEW projects. Completed projects or projects that do not need funding can be brought by filling out the form if you would like them included in the materials and placed outside of your camp.
Any projects funded by the event should be available to the community as a whole to experience. They should be public and accessible. Camp structures are not eligible for art grants.
Art grants are intended to cover the cost of raw materials (i.e. wood, steel, paint, fabric, metals, etc.). Art grants CAN NOT be used for labor costs or tools and equipment that have value or use outside of the art project.
Additional items not allowable to be covered by art grants include generators, drills, projectors, cameras, boats, or vehicles.
Art grants CANNOT be used for personal transportation for you and your team to Meow Burn! but funds may be used towards transportation costs required to bring large projects to the event but cannot be the majority of the art grant.
Art Car grants must be used for artistic/design portion of the vehicles and not the function or vehicle itself. Art grant funds CANNOT be used to cover the cost of food or alcohol.
